ETAC Charter

In its November 2018 meeting, the Chief Academic Officers (CAOs) expressed continued support for a committee that addresses learning management and other technology systems used to support faculty and students.

Structure

The committee is comprised of faculty, instructional support personnel from across the system. Faculty or instructional support representatives should be selected through a process consistent with the policies of their individual campus, and their nomination should be forwarded to the committee by their Chief Academic Officer. US:IT provides administrative support and provides information and other assistance as needed. The committee should be chaired or co-chaired by a faculty representative selected by committee members. Chair/co-chair appointments will be for two-year terms with an unlimited number of consecutive terms possible.

Purpose

  • To support and develop strategies, direction, and plans for meaningful and innovative use of technologies which effectively support teaching and learning across the University.
  • To identify new technology solutions that are broadly beneficial or that may be used in multiple discipline areas.
  • To ensure that faculty and students are given a voice in the selection of educational technology
  • To ensure adequate and effective technology support exists to promote and assist adoption and continued and successful use of technology in the classroom.
  • To make recommendations to the Chief Academic Officer committee regarding technology adoption and its development, funding, and policy.

Objectives

  • Develop a common vision for institutionally supported teaching and learning systems.
  • Identify opportunities where technology can support and enable improved or innovative teaching and learning practices.
  • Oversee the development of policies regarding the use of educational technology in collaboration with other academic policy committees.
  • Oversee the identification, selection, and implementation of educational technologies at the system level.
  • Review current educational technologies and support structures, identify any risks and challenges associated with them, and provide guidance and recommendations to improve the services.
